Parts of a computer

Computers are made up of many parts working together. It is not as simple as the cords you plug in when you buy it. Inside the case there are many components that make the computer work how it does.

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the "brain" of the computer system . Everything that a computer does is overseen by the by this "brain".

Then there is memory which is very fast storage used to hold data. It is required to be fast because it connects directly to the CPU. There are several specific types of memory in a computer. 3 types of memory are Ram, Rom and Bios. *Ram is random access memory; It is used to temporarily store information that the computer is currently working with. *Rom, which is read only memory is a permanent type of memory storage used by the computer for important data that does not change and *Bios A type of ROM that is used by the computer to establish basic communication when the computer is first turned on.

The motherboard is the main circuit board that all of the other internal components connect to. It is a rectangular circuit board with different kinds of connectors for different components. The CPU and memory are usually on the motherboard. Other systems may be found directly on the motherboard or connected to it through a secondary connection. Sound cards can be built into the motherboard or connect to a PCI slot.

Then there is the hard drive. The large-capacity permanent storage used to hold information such as programs, pictures or even your music.

The oporating system is often referred to as the OS and is the basic software that allows the user to interact with the computer.

Then theres are the graphics and sound cards. the sound card is used by the computer to record and play audio by converting analog sound into digital information and back again. This translates image data from the computer into a format that can be displayed by the monitor. And the graphics card is what translates image data from the computer into a format that can be displayed by the monitor.
